How much does it cost?
Being run by volunteers, Scouting is incredible value for money and not expensive either. Parents pay a subscription 3 times a year in line with the School Spring, Summer and Autumn terms. This covers the cost of regular meetings. On top of this there are one-off fees payable for specific events such as camps.
Subscriptions
Beaver section: | £30 per term (£90 per annum) |
Cub section: | £35 per term (£105 per annum) |
Scout section: | £40 per term (£120 per annum) |
Example event costs
Beaver Panto | £8 |
Beaver sleepover (indoor) | £20 |
Cub weekend away (indoor) | £80 |
Scout weekend camp (outdoor) | £40 |
Scout 7-night Summer Camp (outdoor) | £250 |
Fundraising
Although our fees are low many of our costs are not! The Group needs to maintain its meeting place and equipment including the Scout minibus, trailer, tents, &c. We also pay fees to the UK Scout Association of which we form part. This means that we frequently conduct fundraising events such as bag-packing at supermarkets and socials.
We also use fundraising to maintain a trust fund from which we can subsidise the subscriptions and event fees of any young people who cannot afford the full cost of Scout membership.
